About the event
Neurodegenerative diseases affect millions of people worldwide. Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease are two of the most common neurodegenerative diseases. Both conditions are progressive and may worsen over time to make it difficult to perform daily tasks and affect your quality of life.
They can both cause cognitive impairment such as loss of memory, trouble with concentration, difficulty communicating, and challenges in comprehension. However, while dementia in both diseases may appear the same, the causes are different.
Because of their similarities and shared symptoms, it can be easy to confuse the two or assume a link between the two diseases. Both conditions can lead to serious, life-changing outcomes and need to be treated as such. Regardless of the disease, the best results will occur if detection is early so treatment can begin.
We're encouraging families in the Ozarks to take part in both awareness events to learn more about each disease, resources available, and how they can provide support for one another.
PGO be visiting with families at the Walk to End Alzheimer's and Alzheimer's Association will be visiting with families at our Pound the Pavement for Parkinson's 5K Walk/Run. We look forward to seeing you at both events!!
